Council Highlights

This is a synopsis of the Council meeting held on June 25th, 2008.

Ř  The Church Council had a very helpful meeting with Martin Russell.  The Council was given guidance regarding Pastor Clay’s retirement and the search for a new Pastor, questions were answered, and the Council will be working on the meticulous task of putting together a profile of the congregation.

 ST. MARK’S PRAYER TEAM

The Prayer Team continues to be an avenue for fielding individual prayer concerns. On the third Sunday of each month, there are one or two prayer team members at the altar rail to hear the prayer concerns. You are welcome to come up before or after you commune. All prayers are confidential. If climbing the steps is difficult for you, please let an usher know so that they can direct a team member to come to you.  We currently have 11 members on the Prayer Team and would welcome those who wish to join us. This ministry is truly one from the heart, sharing concerns, joys and sorrows with each other. For more information, please contact Jan in the office or Karen King.

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY

The Ministry is in full swing.  Keep us informed if you know of someone needing the Shawl.  Let Jan know and she will see that one of the ministry are notified.

PRAYER SCARVES

Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Lincoln has invited us to join them in a project that will provide 2,000 knitted or crocheted scarves to prisoners in Tanzania where the inmates are often treated in a less than civil manner.  The scarves are to be 48 inches long by 10 inches wide and in bright colors.  The need is great, so any color will do.  If you are a knitter or crotchetier and would like to take part in this project, yarn will also be available in the Church Office.  Yarn can be donated as well.  For further details, see Sandy Trofholz.

ST. MARK’S QUILTERS

The St. Mark’s Quilters met on May 28th with four devoted quilters.  We did eight more quilts so have done forty-nine so far since we took the remainder last October for Lutheran World Relief.

We are grateful for those who have made quilt tops at home, for those who have donated sheets and materials, thread and yarn.  We are thankful for Nancy Glidden sewing around all of them and for storing them for us.  It takes a lot of willing hands for this project, so thank you, thank you.

All are welcome to join us on Wednesday, July 30th from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. for another quilting session.  Hope to see you there.

END OF CHURCH RECYCLING

The church is no longer receiving aluminum cans for recycling.  We do encourage individuals to please recycle yourself.

FROM THE PASTOR

EXPANDING HOSPITALITY CONVERSATIONS

BETWEEN WORSHIP SERVICES IN JULY

July Sundays between Worship services is for conversations with leaders to share ideas and future plans.

July 6: Communion Assistants (Council servers) and Altar Guild will meet from 9:30-10 a.m. discussing frequency of communion, set up and take down of communion, Serving etc.

July 13: Greeters and would be greeters are invited to meet in the Sanctuary at 9:30 a.m. to discuss how to increase hospitality in how we greet; e.g. would greeters in favorable weather, care to stand outside the front door, opening the door for those who come.  Would greeters like to help with hanging coats? (Just a couple of thoughts)

July 20: Ushers and would be ushers (that’s right, if you are considering becoming an usher, please come to this meeting) are invited to meet in the sanctuary from 9:30-10 a.m.  Come with any concerns and ways that we might enable worshipers enjoy and participate in worship.

July 27: Music and Worship leaders are invited to meet in the conference room at 9:30 a.m. for conversation.  Anyone with ideas of continuing to upgrade music and worship is invited to share ideas with leaders ahead of time.

                                                                        In Christ,  Pastor Clay Skurdahl

 PEACE CIRCLE NEWS

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

We are members of Peace Circle.  Peace Circle was organized in 2001, the year of 911.  That is how we chose our name.  We meet monthly on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. at the church, during the months of September through May.  We follow the Lutheran Woman Today Bible studies and also put our faith into action through our Outreach Projects.  Our Projects for our Church Family are:  Food For Friends, The Children’s Family Worship Bags, Christmas Dinner Party, Garage Sale and All Saint’s Sunday.  Our community outreach is the support of the Douglas County Food Pantry and our World Outreach is facilitating the collection of items for the Lutheran World Relief School Kit Program.  We have also been involved in Global Health Ministries.

WE NEED YOUR HELP BECAUSE, we have “dwindled” to a group of 3-4 active members.  We would very much like to see our circle continue as we feel we are “Christ Centered” in our mission to one another and the church family, community and world.

IF YOU WOULD CONSIDER JOINING US, please contact Susie Sip at 289-4955, Karen Authier at 289-3571, Joyce Snide at 359-2464 or Diane Skurdahl at 359-5689
